Pick your state
How the checker works
- Pick your state.
- Answer 10 questions, one at a time. Tap Check answer to see if you were right and why.
- At the end you see your score, the topics you missed most and where to study next.
The questions are written in our own words from official driver handbooks. They are meant for practice and may differ from what the state asks.
What your score means
- Under 50%: you are early in your studying. Start with the handbook sections for your weak topics.
- 50% to 79%: you know part of the material. Review the topics you missed and try again.
- 80% and up: a good sign, but ten questions only sample the rules. Keep practicing before test day.
These bands are our own rule of thumb, not a prediction. Pass marks and question counts differ by state, so check your state guide for the official numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Is the readiness checker the real permit test?
No. It is a self-check built from Permi's practice questions. The real test at your state's DMV or licensing office uses its own questions and its own pass mark.
Which states does it cover?
California, Texas and Florida. Texas and Florida get questions about rules that are the same in every state. California also gets questions about California-specific rules and numbers.
Can I take it more than once?
Yes. Each run picks a new set of questions at random, so a retry may show questions you have not seen yet.
Do I need to sign up or give my email?
No. You can use the checker without an account.
